  • How to Plan the trip

Papikondalu is situated exactly in the center of Kunavaram (A place nearby Bhadrachalam) and Rajahmundry. Boats will start from Rajahmundry as well as Kunavaram. We can select from Rajahmundry or Kunavaram whichever is nearer to us. If we plan from Kunavaram we also can cover Bhadrachalam temple.
Best time to plan this trip is from September till March. Because after March the water levels in Godavari will be very less in some places for summer and then rainy reason, the water levels will be very high. Hence the best time to plan this will be from September till March. Weather conditions will good and generally we will see hot and dry weather. In day time the temperature will be high and in night time it will be very cold. We need to plan the clothing accordingly.

In boat journey, we will tire very easily and fell hungry often. Hence need to plan some snacks. Whoever is planning to stay at Kolluru need to plan some team games and need to remember that there will not be any connectivity to communicate hence need to plan the things accordingly.

  • About Kunavaram

Kunavaram is a place where River SABARI meets the river GODAVARI. River Sabari comes from east and River Godavari comes from South. Both meet here and flow towards South – East. We can also identify the water from both rivers with different colors flowing side by side. As this is the corner where Sabari and Godavari meet, this place was named as KONA-VARAM (KONA=Corner) and then eventually changed to Kunavaram. The SANGAMESWARA SWAMY (Lord Siva) temple is unique in South India and is situated at a place where both the rivers unite. Here, we can see Lord Siva in the form of SPATIKA LINGA which is a once-in a lifetime opportunity and a unique view in south India.

  • About Sriramagiri

Sri Rama Giri is a place situated on the banks of the river Godavari (which is about 4 kilometers from KUNAVARAM). The deity YOGARAMA temple is on a hill place and it is named after Sri Rama. According to a mythological story, Sabari, who is a great devotee of Rama, gave shelter to Sri Rama & Laxmana while they were in search of SITA DEVI and offered fruits to Rama after tasting them out of affection towards Rama. Bhakta Sabari who had spent her old age by chanting Ramanama in Dhandakaranya attained salvation after having Darshan of Rama whom she loved fervently and later dissolved as a rivulet which merged into the holy river Godavari near Kunavaram.

  • History of Bhadrachalam Temple

Lord Rama is the seventh incarnation of SRI MAHA VISHNU. According to ITIHASAS, The significance of the temple town Bhadrachalamtrace back to TRETAYUGA (Era of Ramayana). This coherent hill place existed in “Dandakarunya” where Lord Rama with his consort Sita and his brother Laxmana spent their time in Vanavasa in Treta Yuga.
Vykunta Rama was first found by PokalaDammakka, A devotee of Lord Rama who lived in 17th Century and was an inhabitant of Bhadrireddypalem, which is a mile away from Bhadrachalam. One night, Lord Rama had given Darshan to her in her dream and asked her to trace out the MURTEES and perform POOJA to get salvation. The next day she found the idols of LORD SITA, RAMA and LAXMANA in an ant-hill. She dissolved the ant-hill by pouring hundreds of pots of Godavari water on it. Finally she has given a way for the appearance of the hidden DEITIES. Since then, she performed severalPoojas and offered Nivedhyam daily without fail.
The current temple was built by KANCHARLA GOPANNA, popularly known as BHAKTA RAMADASU. He was a great devotee of Lord Rama. He found GOD in an amazing appearance. Then Ramadasu asked villagers to contribute liberally for the construction of the temple. After the contributions were found to be insufficient, the villagers appealed him to spend the revenue collections for the construction of the temple with a promise to repay the amount after harvesting the crops. Accordingly, Ramadasu constructed the temple with an amount of Rs 6 Lakhs collected from the land revenues without the permission of the NizamNawab.
Once the construction of the temple was complete, RAMADASU fell into a miserable life. TANISHAH was angry and he imprisoned him for 12 long years in GOLKONDA PORT. Then one late night RAM and LAXMAN came in to the Mahal with the names of RAMOJI and LAXMOJI (they said that they are the servants of RAMADASU ) and repaid SIX LAKHS MOHRIS. They had taken the voucher from TANISHAH and placed it under the pillow of RAMADASU where he was jailed. The next day TANISHAH realized that those divine looking persons are RAMA and LAXMANA and made arrangements to release RAMADASU and prayed to forgive him. From there onwards RAMADASU had spent the rest of his life in the daily activities (Kinkaryas) of RAMA.
TANISHAH became a devotee of RAMA and he has given a sasana to use all the income from palonchaparagana (more than RS 20,000)for the maintenance of temple. He started sending MUTYALA TALAMBRALU for every KALYANA MAHOTSAVA of RAMA and SITA, which our state government of continuing. We can see all the gold armaments RAMADASU made for SITA and RAMA and LAXMANA in the museum at the temple.

  • About Papikondalu

The Godavari is the longest river in South India with a length of 1465 kilometers in its way from Trimbak in Nasik District in Maharashtra till it reaches Bay of Bengal at YANAM and ANTARVEDI in West Godavari District in AndhraPradesh. On its way, the mighty river gives a wonderful scenic beauty while crossing a hill range called PAPIKONDALU. ThroughBhadrachalam to Rajahmundry, one can see the river flowing with a width of three kilometers which provides a spectacular view. AtPapikondalu, thehill rangenarrows down to less than half a kilometer. In olden days, the riverwasmuch smaller than this. Elders also say that the hills on both the sides of the river used to touch the side edges of the lanch. Now it got widened down to some extent. The scenic beauty of the nature (with Godavari flowing in to a very narrow hill range, the greenery of hill tops, ranges of waterfalls from hill tops which reach Godavari)cannot be described in mere words. One should visit this place and experience its beauty.

There are so many beautiful places in this journey. Below mentioned are some of them:

  • About Kinnerasani

Kinnerasani is a beautiful place with lush greenery all around and is situated around 40 kilometers from Bhadrachalam. There are two things that we can enjoy here the most. The First is Kinnerasani Dam and the other is Wildlife sanctuary.
The dam was built on the river kinnerasani(this place has been named after the river itself). There is so much natural beauty in the surroundings of this place. So many poets visualized that the nature has taken the form of a lady, wore a beautiful green saree and became KINNERASANI. The cool breeze whips the hair about your face as you ramble along the streets that dip and rise delightfully. Breathtaking views surprise you from pretty cottages as you sniff appreciatively the heady fragrance of the Kinnerasani waters.

The sanctuary spreads over an area of 635.40 square kilometers and is home to Tigers, Panthers, Gaur, Cheetahs, Chinkara, Chowsingha (deer with horns), Sambar, Wild Boars, Wild Dogs, Hyenas, Jackals, Sloth Bears and a variety of ground nesting and aquatic birds. The land is covered with deciduous teak forests with Bamboo, Terminalias, Anogeissuslatifolia and Cassia (species of forest trees found especially in South Asian countries).
There is a Kinnerasani Lake in the sanctuary with an island in the centre covered with thick forest. This offers a picturesque sight while there are some Marsh crocodiles in the lake and some water pools in the premises of the sanctuary. The best time to visit is between May to February when there are rains and the forest is lush with greenery all-over. Very close to the sanctuary, there is a Kinnerasani Dam and reservoir along the Kinnerasani River. A Deer Park is also in the close vicinity of the sanctuary..
